Omar Griffin (Coach Omar) has been involved in basketball and sports for over 20 years as a player and coach. Coach Omar played basketball competitively in high school and at the club level in College. Originally from the Bronx, NY, Omar began developing his skills and love for the game on the playgrounds as a young boy. In high school, Omar coached a co-ed youth recreational team and his passion for coaching has been burning ever since. In 2002, Omar moved to Washington D.C. to attend the George Washington University, where he further developed his coaching skills through providing private coaching for players on the GWU Men's and Women's basketball team. At GW, he focused on teaching players the necessary fundamentals to highlight their athleticism. Coach Omar has coached at every school level and has been successful in each position. In the 2009–2010 season, Omar was the assistant coach of the varsity basketball team at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Besthda, MD. This team finished with a 20-6 overall record, the highest win total in twenty years. Coach Omar recently completed his second year as the head coach of the Boy's Varsity basketball team at the McLean School of Maryland.The team finished with a 19-5 overall record and made it to the Potomac Valley athletic Conference Championship Game. Before he became Head Coach in 2010, the school did not have a double digit win season or make the playoffs in over a decade. His passion to coach and play sports has lead him to a lifetime commitment to improving at both. He offers his valuable experience and enthusiasm to all players and families through the Fundamentals Academy.
